As the officers carefully explored the cavity with their flashlights, they discovered something that made everyone’s blood run cold: a faded, tattered blanket with unidentifiable stains and remnants of what appeared to be personal belongings. A small, rusted locket and a bundle of letters, their ink smudged and unreadable, lay abandoned in the darkness.

“Looks like someone had been living in here,” the second officer muttered, perplexity in his voice. “This might explain the noises you’ve been hearing.”

Son’s mind raced as he tried to piece together what had been happening under their noses. “How could this have gone unnoticed?” he wondered aloud, his voice barely above a whisper. Han clutched the baby tightly, her eyes wide with fear and disbelief.

The first officer, maintaining his composure, continued to examine the space. “It’s possible that whoever was here was using this as a hiding place. It’s unlikely they were living here continuously… more like coming and going as they pleased.”
