I made my way to a quiet spot—a secluded park I often visited when I needed to think. I parked the car and sat with my hands on the steering wheel, taking steadying breaths. My thoughts turned to Joanna. She was a dear friend, and the thought of her being manipulated and controlled by her own daughter chilled me to the bone. We were two old women, targets of a new era where loyalty and respect seemed replaced by greed and ambition.
